Yes, it's a helpful solution, CCleaner is just junk so you don't have to worry if it's safe. Please keep in mind that we are here to help you build a computer, not to build it for you. Do you want me to post the last error I mentioned ie the one when using the uninstall function of the congig panel - see attached screen capture or all the errors identified by DAF?
I installed mine yesterday, ran "analyze", it ran and nothing showed up for hours. Is this not supposed to be connected to the internet to scan? It is not necessary to be online to use ccleaner. If fact if you use FireFox you must close it before cleaning.

Only thing I can suggest op is to try and get into Safe Mode and use some kind of built-in "reverse" option if CCleaner provides it, and if backups of whatever it decided to delete were saved somewhere.

Did you hard reset times after making it to some semblance of the Windows startup process? It scans a quick scan and does nothing, then reboots to the same windows screen. Of course, after first extracting the critical data that you need from that hard drive.
For future reference Windows 10 doesn't need extra "cleaning" like old Windows versions used to. Windows 10 is pretty good at taking care of itself. I've used CCleaner on hundreds of machines since XP, and this has never, ever happened to any of them.
Sounds like your best course of action is to boot from the USB recovery drive of your choice, copy your files over to an external hard drive, and reinstall Win10 with the Media Creation Tool. You don't need a disk, and your machine is registered already, so you don't need a key either.

Im Using CCleaner since forever and never had problems. I even clean my Registery with it which is not something i recommend and had no problems so far. Couldn't have said it better myself.
And, yeah, no good reason to mess with registry cleaners, unless it's after removing bloatware from a new machine, to get rid of any leftover entries. Why would I need to do anything of the things you listed?
Why would I pay money for a "Premium version" for cleaning browser cache "every time u close the browser" when every browser at least Chrome and Firefox can do this on their own?
Why would I want to clean my registry? What does this do for me? Do what I did and use a version from or so. I pulled mine from my NAS, but you can get them online.
You're talking about a supply chain that was compromised. Knows, they couod still have hostile actors in their systems. I wpuod recommend looking at basic windows utilities, maybe give bitbleach a go.

I stopped using them years ago as they were placebo, times change though so are they any better now? You don't have to open every program and do it yourself. That's the main reason I use it every once in a while.
I barely have used Windows 10 planning to come back to PC in the coming months. Yes and Windows 10 typically handles its own maintenance tasks on its own. You really don't need to do it at all.
The only thing that might take up unnecessary space would be restore points, and you can just disable that feature if you don't want them. Software like CCleaner are very useful because they contain a suite of functions in one easy location.
People in the last thread like this were saying "don't bother with CCleaner it's easy to do yourself! All the maintenance you need to do in Windows is GUI based, and you don't even need to know exactly what apps to run since you can search for terms in Start. You could save those lines into a text file and call it cleanup.
Bonus, you learn something about how your pc works. Yeah but CCleaner provides backups in case things go wrong for the cache and registry cleaning, and there's still several features not covered by that text file that would require extra steps.
I was not talking about ccleaner but just your statement about having to type the commands every time. While Windows makes an effort to remain backward compatible, any modern cleanup commands would utilise cmd.
The hell do you do to get such amounts of temp files? For me Windows takes care of them and I never have a significant amount. With CCleaner you can tell all your friends and family about how clean you butthole computer is and then they can tell all their friends about their grandson the computer expert.
In windows 10 and I think 7 too this can be done anyway without a third party program. Not really worth it. So I did have ccleaner installed about 2 weeks ago and it was the same version 5. I however uninstalled it before this even was news.
Should I be worried? First, AVG is trash, I mean, really trash, a ridiculous bloatware. You better served with Windows Defender from Windows 10 than this trash. If you want to pay for AV go for Bitdefender, Kaspersky etc.

If you have the means, reinstall Windows. The answer to your question will always be Piriform 'believes' later versions are safe. But are they really? The company is still clueless about what happened, so any assurance it gives will have zero worth.
IMO it's not worth using this software anymore for any reason. If they got compromised this badly over such a long period, they clearly have serious problems managing their own infrastructure. I'm now worried that the breach couldve extended to Avast itself and we're blindly trusting a potentially compromised AV firm.
Okayyy, is it safe to use Speccy then? It's from Piriform as well.. Their other apps havent been vetted but IMO none can be trusted now. I've always used Glary Utilities for maintenance. There is a free version or you can go here if you want the pro version for free.

Obviously it's better to manually open up all your programs with a cache and clear them individually, and when your hard drive does eventually get full, you just toss it out and buy a new one.

I recently threw together a powershell script that clears my browser caches, temp files, download folders, etc. It accomplishes roughly the same thing without needing a 3rd party app and gives me control over it.
I'm not highly proficient in Powershell at all, so if I can do it, anyone can! Just woke up, so let me grab a cup of coffee and I'll throw it up there for you. I'm certain people with far more experience than I could do far better, but it works for me and was as much an exercise in learning Powershell as anything else.
Nothing fancy, and was definitely more me trying to find out how PowerShell works than anything, but it's a handy little tool to run on our breakroom computers at work to clear out the clutter.
Some bits I sourced from other forums, so I'll go back and add credit when I'm awake and more functional. I used CCleaner before, but after the hack I switched to Privazer.
I'm not sure if the program is all that great, but it seems to do what it advertises, and it's got great reviews and is one of the alternatives to CCleaner. Also, I'm pretty sure CCleaner was bought by Avast, and I'm really not interested in their meddling with a great, free software.

Use your arrow key to select "Safe Mode". Download CClear to your desktop CCleaner, scroll down to the slim version. Just download, don't install it yet. Download DAF to your desktop. Beneath that you will see "Direct download DJLizard.
Install it then open the program Click the green check mark then click GO. Boot the computer as normal, and tap the F8 key repeatedly before the Windows logo appears and choose Safe mode with command prompt from the boot menu.

Why would I want to clean my registry? What does this do for me? If it doesn't give any advantages like I asked in the first post why would I use it? I asked for real facts, real measurable advantages, not just "it doesn't cause any harm".

More time for the actual things i do on my pc instead of cleaning here and there which isn't like it takes 1 hour but still it saves time I cannot even get to that screen, it launches Windows Defender Offline automatically and I cannot change anything.
I think although CCleaner is powerful, you cannot avoid them to mistakenly remove necessary components in the system. The safest way is to use the builtin tool. However, it's your own choice to use them or not.
Don't factory reset from the settings, it won't help. Microsoft recommends to NOT use any registry cleaners. Just ask yourself this. Do IT professionals use any registry cleaners? I have never seen a single one of them use one.
